This Month in the Apocalypse: June, 2025

Transcript
Speaker A:

Foreign. Hello and welcome to Live like the World Is Dying, your podcast for what feels like the end times and howdy duty. Does it feel like the end times lately? Like, you know, always, but more than ever? Maybe. I don't know. I feel like the cycle of news travels so quickly that when I was looking over, like, what to talk about today on this Month in the Apocalypse, because it's our monthly segment talking about every crazy. Well, not every crazy thing because there were just too many things happened last month and we're only talking about a few of them because I feel like everybody, everyone, everyone knows a lot of the stuff that that has happened and this would have to be daily at this point to keep up with it. So we're going to talk about some of the stuff that happened and I have here with me two lovely co hosts, James and Miriam. How are y' all doing today?

Speaker B:

It's not a fair question to ask.

Speaker A:

You were just bantering about transmasc cows and now silence.

Speaker B:

Yeah, most, most common kind of trans cow is a trans mass cow. That's a fun cow fact for you all.

Speaker C:

Yeah, we are just some people who know a lot about cattle and we are currently alive. So what's the worst we could possibly say about that?

Speaker A:

Yeah, we're about to find out. But before we find out, we are a proud member of the Channel Zero network of anarchist podcasts. And here's a jingle from another show on the network and I think that was a very professional segue.

Speaker D:

It's going down and you're invited for what they selling we ain't buying. There is no running, There is no hiding there's only fighting or dying. It's going down and you're invited for what they sell it. We ain't buying. There is no running, There is no hiding, there's only fighting or dying.

Speaker E:

It's Going down is a digital community center from anarchist, anti fascist, autonomous, anti capitalist and anti colonial movements. Our mission is to provide an autonomous and resilient platform to publicize and promote revolutionary theory and action.

Speaker A:

So I want to start off the conversation today by with some fun. Like kind of like fun. Oh God, not fun haha like kind of things, but sort of fun haha kind of things. So.

Speaker C:

And then do you know what fun means?

Speaker A:

No. No, I don't. Okay, wait though, hear me out. So ongoing saga of the pop cultural conscience of the world, which is being led by Irish language rap group Kneecap. We've talked about them a bunch before to the point where we could probably do a whole episode about Kneecap right now. Is that as we. As we've heard previously, Makara has been charged with for saying stuff on stage and being charged with like, I don't know, effectively like terrorism or saying bad things about the idf. But interesting thing that's happening with Mokara is that almost identically to the plot of the movie Kneecap, he is requesting to speak the Irish language during all of his court proceedings. Or, you know, not requesting, demanding he's going to speak Irish during all of his court proceedings. And I'm assuming, much like in the movie Kneecap, when he does it in the. In the fictionalized biopic of the band, refuse to understand anything that's said in English. And I just fucking love that.

Speaker B:

Life becomes art, I guess.

Speaker A:

Yeah, yeah. Art becomes life. Yeah. It makes me wonder if there's going to be like a bit in court where they're like, look, we see you doing this in your movie. We know you can speak English. We know this is a bit.

Speaker B:

Stop trolling us. I mean, they've already won because they made the judge watch their fictionalized biography.

Speaker A:

Yeah, yeah.

Speaker C:

I mean, can you. Can you force somebody to stop doing something just because it's a bit. I mean, if you have the right to demand an interpreter, do you have to actually prove you don't speak English or do you just have to be like, I'm not hearing any English right now. I'm like, I'm just refusing to do it.

Speaker A:

This was a whole bit in the movie. Go. Go watch the movie Kneecap. Stop listening to this podcast and go watch Kneecap right now.

Speaker C:

It takes a very bold person to do bits in court, and I applaud that.

Speaker A:

Yeah, yeah. It's audacious, truly. But moving on from fun pop cultural things, there is, in fact, you know, bad things happening in the world. And I'm here today to talk about wildfires in Canada. Have you all. Have you all, like, been reading much or seeing much about the last, like, month or so of fires up there in what is still considered the preseason.

Speaker B:

For the preseason spring training for fires.

Speaker C:

They'Re getting their practice in.

Speaker B:

Yeah, we've had a few. We've had a few fires in. Down here in Southern California as well. I have not been paying a vast amount of attention to the Canadian fires.

Speaker C:

I have to admit. I haven't. I haven't pursued it beyond the odd air quality alert.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker C:

Which we are already getting.

Speaker A:

Yeah. Which the, the smoke and like, kind of like air quality stuff is going as far as.
